Where form meets function. The PAX vaporizer was born in Silicon Valley and you can clearly see the influence of cutting-edge technology in its design.
The PAX 2 functions using a large conduction oven. It has a built in screen to prevent the plant matter from entering the vapor path and a magnetic oven lid to keep it all in place. It requires a finer grind to the herb and a firmly packed bowl to achieve the best results. There are some simple user modifications to the screen available to the PAX that can manufacture larger vapor clouds while using less material. Brilliant!
Control & Operation:
The bottom of the PAX 2 is where the oven is located. Gently press on one side and it will flip open. Pack the bowl with finely ground herb and lightly pack it down off the edges and replace the oven lid. It operates with 1 button. That's it. A quick push on the mouthpiece turns it on and off. Hold down for 2 seconds to enter temperature setting mode. There are 4 temperature settings denoted by the LED light flower petals. A quick press cycles through the temperature range; 1 petal is low, 4 petals are high. Hold again for 2 seconds to exit temperature setting mode. With a built-in accelerometer, the PAX 2 will slow the heating process down if it is not being used for 20 seconds but will resume when it know's it's being lifted.
There is a powerful, built-in lithium-ion battery inside the PAX 2. We have been getting 8-10 long sessions from a single battery charge. That's incredibly impressive for a vape that fits in your palm. The only downside to such a large battery is the charge time. It takes around 2.5 hours on the proprietary charging cradle to get the unit filled up again. To check the battery level, just give it a shake. The petals will turn white and give a power reading from 1 to 4. Cool!
Feel & Design.
Here is where the PAX 2 shines. Its anodized aluminum body with rounded edges feels incredible in the hand. An ergonomic marvel! With the accelerometer and 1 button design, the PAX 2 feels more like an Apple product than a vaporizer. You can get this sleek little sipper in Charcoal, Platinum, Flare and Topaz. Limited edition Gold and Electric Blue were also released in small numbers.
The day to day maintenance on the PAX 2 is pretty simple. The stainless steel oven empties easily and wipes down with a cloth, brush or Q-Tip. After 10-15 sessions, ISO wipe the mouthpiece and clean the vapor path with a pipe cleaner.
The PAX 2 comes with a 10-year manufacturer's warranty and it must be purchased from an Authorized Dealer like The Herb Cafe or it will not be honored. There are a lot of fakes in the market, so be sure to buy from a trusted source.
With the upcoming release of the PAX 3, the PAX 2 has a new lower price. And it's where it should be. We had a hard time recommending this vape when it was almost $100 more than it is now, but at this price point, it's hard to find a vape.
